  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom (optional)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup plain yogurt or sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a baking pan.
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples, then set aside.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cardamom.
  4. In another bowl, mix melted butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and yogurt until smooth.
  5. Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Spread half of the batter in the prepared pan; layer half the apple slices on top.
  7. Add the remaining batter over the apples; top with the rest of the apple slices.
  8. Mix sugar and cinnamon for topping; sprinkle over apples.
  9. Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Let cool for 10–15 minutes before slicing.
