  • 1 lb (450g) beef strips (sirloin or ribeye)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • Soy sauce and hoisin sauce for flavoring
  • Rice vinegar for tang

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, hoisin sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, and vegetable oil. Marinate the beef strips for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat; sauté sliced onions until soft and caramelized. Remove from pan.
  3. Increase heat to high; add remaining vegetable oil and sear marinated beef for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  4. Mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch in a bowl; pour over beef once browned and simmer until thickened.
  5. Add sautéed onions back into the pan; stir to combine and serve over steamed rice or noodles.
